After about a week of battling old age sickness in a hospital in Boston, Massachusetts in the United States of America, 82 year old Africa’s foremost novelist and author, Prof Chinua Achebe succumbed to the cold hands of death yesternight. His health had deteriorated over a week ago after which he was rushed to the hospital but just as there was hope that the literary icon may survive it, things fell apart for his health and he finally passed on.
Achebe was a David and Mariana Fisher Professor of Literature at Brown University, U.S till his death. Born on November 16, 1930, he was a famous novelist, poet, professor, and critic. He was best known for his first novel Things Fall Apart (1958), which is the most widely read book in modern African literature.
